Dylan-isms

Dylan's vocabulary seems to double each day. It's been amazing. He went from saying only "ball" and "dada" a few months ago, to now speaking in full sentences and sportscasting everything he sees. And now that we understand him better, we're getting a huge kick out of what he says. Here are just a few examples that I don't want to forget down the road.

Each morning (and after some naps), I ask him about his dreams. I'm not sure he fully understands what I'm asking him yet, because the answer is always the same. Every night he dreams about "apples." Some mornings he would tell me he dreamed about "peanut apples," which I figured meant peanuts and apples. But we were at Trader Joe's the other day and he grabbed a pineapple off the shelf and declared "Peanut apple!" So I guess he also dreams about pineapples :)

He also is constantly "making" and "cooking" things (as a side note, he also mainly speaks in action gerunds - running, climbing, jumping, throwing, drumming). For example, at the park, he always "cooks" with the sand, or he'll get into the kitchen appliances and pretend to cook. But every time, he says he's cooking "pie cakes." Or "pie fruit." Or "pie soup." The funny thing is, he's never had pie before.

He's also very concerned that Jason, Lina and I are well-fed. Usually when he requests food, he'll add in a request for you, too. So you'll often hear a "Nuts please!" followed by "Dada nuts too!"

Jason and I got into the habit of calling Lina "Lina Bear" and Dylan picked up on it. When she grabs a toy from his hand, or he wants to give her a hug, he says "Ina Bear!"

And he's just recently started singing with us. He always refused before, but now he joins right in. He loudly repeats the last word or two of every line that you sing, usually accompanied by a little sway or dance. So cute.

He's also always inventing new games. The most recent favorite is what he calls "Chapstick Pillow." It's usually played with Dada and involves taking one of my pillows and using it as a bat to hit a tube of chapstick that Jason throws at him. It's a favorite pre-bedtime pastime and I'm sure it will become an Olympic sport before too long.

And everything right now takes him "two minutes." So when he's making his pie cakes, they cook for two minutes. Or if you want him to come with you, it's going to take him two minutes.

A few weeks ago, Dylan was watching tennis on tv and Jason explained that the player's name was Sharapova. It was a while ago, and we didn't really thing much more about it. Then the other day he and Jason were playing "tennis" in the backyard (it's in quotes because we actually use ping pong paddles, a tennis ball, and the soccer goal as the net), and Jason called me outside. Dylan was announcing that he was "Sharapovy." Too funny!

Lina is 7 months old!

Lina turned 7 months last weekend! She's crawling around everywhere and tearing everything apart, as well as eating a bunch of new foods. She's getting so big!
