Forest School

A couple weeks ago, Dylan started going to a little "preschool" two mornings a week. The interesting thing about this program is that it's entirely outdoors. The kids meet at a national park in Oakland, in a little clearing that's protected by a big canopy of trees. They play in the trees, throw pine cones, look at insects, splash in puddles, read books, sing songs -- basically have a blast while getting really dirty! The first few drop-offs involved some tears, but I'm told the crying stopped before I had even made my way back up the hill to my car. And the past two days that I've left him, he happily waves "bye bye" and turns back around to smash a stick against a log or splash in a puddle. Our boy is growing up!

After each class, we get an email from Teacher Joanna and Teacher Sean with some pictures from the day and a summary of what they've done. It's a very sweet program and I have to practically drag Dylan back to the car when I pick him up each day. Hopefully he continues to love "school"!
